Title 1
What is Title I?
Title I is a federal program that provides funds to school districts with high percentages of disadvantaged students to support a variety of services. Its overall purpose is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments.
In Elk Rapids, Lakeland Elementary School and Cherryland Middle School qualify as our Title I buildings. Title I funding allows both buildings to add personnel and programs to ensure we are meeting the academic needs of all students. Additional support programs are summer school, after school homework lab, reading/math interventionists, Early Bird Program, and parent education programs.
